Terms, refunds and privacy

Terms of use
treasurehunt.world is run by Samuel Jones, a sole trader based in London, United Kingdom ("we"). By building or playing a hunt you agree to these terms.
What you get
A web builder to plan a treasure hunt, and a hosted hunt that crews play in a phone browser. Building, previewing and a test run (up to 2 crews and 20 uploads) are free. Unlocking a hunt for full play costs £25, paid once per hunt through Stripe. A paid hunt allows up to 30 crews, 500 photo and video uploads and 2 GB of storage.
Your hunt, your responsibility
- You are responsible for the clues, challenges and places in your hunt, and for the safety of the people playing it. Choose public, safe places. Don't set challenges that are illegal, dangerous, or that involve trespass or harassment.
- Get permission before hiding QR codes on private property or asking venues to take part.
- Only upload, or ask players to upload, content you have the right to share. No content that is unlawful, explicit or abusive.
- Keep your private host link private. Anyone with it can run your hunt.
Availability
We work to keep hunts running, but the service is provided as is. We can't guarantee it will be uninterrupted, and it depends on phone signal and on third-party providers (Cloudflare, Stripe). If a technical fault on our side stops a paid hunt from running, we refund it in full.
Removing content
We may remove hunts or uploads that break these terms, and refund any payment for a hunt we remove unless it was removed for abuse.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Otherwise our total liability for any hunt is limited to the amount you paid for it. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
Refund policy
- Before your hunt starts: if no crew has started playing your paid hunt, email us within 30 days of paying and we refund the full £25.
- If it didn't work: if a fault on our side stopped your hunt from running, we refund it in full, whenever it happened.
- After a hunt has been played: once crews have played the paid hunt, the service has been delivered and we don't normally refund. Tell us if something went wrong and we'll look at it fairly.
Refunds go back to the card you paid with, normally within 5 to 10 working days. Include your hunt link (it starts treasurehunt.world/play/?h=) when you write.
When you pay, you ask us to unlock your hunt straight away. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations that ends the 14-day cancellation right for digital services once a hunt is used. The policy above is more generous than the law requires.
Privacy policy
Samuel Jones (trading as treasurehunt.world) is the data controller for the information below.
What we collect
- Hosts: the hunt you build (title, area, start time, stops, clues, crew names and any player names you type in) and, if you give it, your email address.
- Players: the crew you join, your answers, and the photos and videos your crew uploads.
- Payments: handled by Stripe. We receive your email address, the amount and whether the payment succeeded. We never see or store card details. See Stripe's privacy policy.
- On your device: the builder saves your draft and host link in your browser's local storage. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.
Why we use it
To run your hunt (contract), to send you your host link and judging alerts if you gave an email (contract), to take payment and keep financial records (legal obligation), and to prevent abuse of the service (legitimate interests).
Who processes it
Cloudflare (hosting, database and file storage), Stripe (payments) and Resend (email, if enabled). Some of these providers process data outside the UK under standard data protection safeguards.
How long we keep it
- Photos and videos: deleted automatically 90 days after a hunt's last upload, or straight away when the host resets the hunt.
- Hunt details and crew progress: kept until the host asks us to delete them.
- Payment records: 6 years, as UK tax rules require.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, or object to how we use it, by emailing us. Players who want a photo taken down can ask the host or write to us directly. If you're unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
